FIRST GLANCE
The Burgtec B-Rage Edition Flat Pedals just came through the door at Misspent Summers.
Burgtec say that this pedal was something of a learning curve for them – unsurprising when you’re creating a product for the one rider who probably hucks harder and rides rowdier than anyone else: Brage Vestavik. If you’re not sure who he is, you really need to look him up. If you know who he is, look him up anyway.
From the huge platform to the intimidating centre pins, these machined chunks of 7075 alloy are a little menacing. But Burgtec say they put ‘strength, grip and longevity’ at the forefront of the pedals’ design, so you can understand why they’re so aggressive.
Now, sticking a 55ft Jah Drop approved set of pedals on a 120mm trail bike to dawdle around the local trails might be one of the more contradictory things I’ve done in a while but with the amount of grip these things have, it’s basically like running XC cleats. From the couple of runs I have done on them, let me tell you – once your feet are on, they ain’t coming off.
In Burgtec’s gleaming Rhodium Silver, they look every bit as fast as they are grippy – and now that they are on my bike, I’m fully expecting to be mistaken for Brage in the months ahead. All I need is longer hair, a beard, a Norwegian accent, some actual bike skills, a downhill bike and a Red Bull helmet. So not much at all.
