Les Gets 2022 interviews by Sven Martin

Les Gets World Champs 2022 provided probably – actually, definitely – the wildest spectacle of any mountain bike race we’ve seen.

When the final rider crossed the line and the elite men’s results were confirmed – a French 1-2-3 – the crowd erupted. Well, the crowd had been erupting all day. Fans poured onto the course in a football-style pitch invasion, sweeping the handful of police out the way and engulfing their heroes Loic Bruni, Loris Vergier and Amaury Pierron, in a sea of crazed, raucous, deeply passionate celebration.

Thankfully this isn’t football though, and the day’s winners lapped it up, enjoying every second of the madness.

This is downhill. What a sport. What a race to witness.
