FIRST GLANCE
Mons Royale recently popped a couple of bits in the post that landed on our doorstep last week. Now, if there’s one word that’s synonymous with Mons Royale, it’s Merino – that magic wool New Zealand is famous for, shorn from some of the shaggiest sheep about. Why am I talking about sheep? Both the Diversion Jersey and Trail Pants they sent over are made from this seriously super-special wool.
Trying-out duties were delegated to my friend Jack, as my lankier frame meant it wasn’t quite long enough – Jack, being a more normal-sized human, was more than happy to take on the responsibility. I have to admit, I’m a little jealous, because the combo looks ridiculously comfy, and I’ve got a bit of a purple obsession going on right now.
Jack, however, hasn’t taken the kit off since it arrived. Come rain or shine, he’s in it. We finally had our first properly wet and muddy ride of the year after what’s been an unusually dry spell, and he couldn’t stop talking about how impressed he was with the waterproofness of the Diversion Trail Pants. He also pointed out the little hook in the neckline – handy for airing the jersey out post-ride. And I’m not kidding when I say I haven’t seen him wear anything else since the kit arrived – which is high praise from a man who’s usually very particular about the kit he rides in.
So, keep an eye out for a beaming Jack and the Mons Royale kit on more muddy rides in the months ahead.
