We’re late to the party: Vero Sandler’s latest film – a Chapter Studios production for Santa Cruz – has been out now for just over a month. And it’s so good.
The short film might be titled ‘The Wend’ (meaning ‘to choose a path and direct one’s course, often slowly or indirectly’), but Vero’s journey into mountain biking seems direct, foretold. She says she’s always wanted to be strong and confident, and the film overflows with effortless riding clips underscored by Vero’s signature cool.
But Vero grew up with few female role models in freeride – she had to find her own way into (and through) the sport, finding inspiration in the women she met along the way as they pushed their sport forward.
‘The Wend’ isn’t just the story of Vero’s own progression; it’s the story of the discipline she’s helped pioneer.
“Vero’s many things: a hard worker, a pioneer of the sport, a brilliant rider,” the film’s caption reads. “But even these words fall short of encapsulating the presence and sheer force of will that she exudes.
“Becoming a role model for the next generation is no small task. We’re thankful that Vero’s continuing to put in the work to inspire more future riders to be like her.”
